The Coin
As I sipped my coffee
On the porch this morning,
I watched a little boy
Coming down the street.
He was dragging two
Plastic lawn chairs,
Stacked one on top of the other.
The look on his face
Seemed as though
He was hating his task
Immensely.
He stopped down there,
Right in front of my porch.
He didn't even see me up there.
He bent down and picked up a coin.
I don't know what its denomination was,
But as he looked at it, he rubbed it with his thumb.
He put it in his pocket and his face beamed.
As he walked away,
Still dragging his lawn chairs,
I swear ... there was now a joy in his step.
I wish ...
We could all find a coin like that.
