Dragonfly Love
As I stood on the porch this morning,
Listening to the birds
And taking in the sounds and smells of a new day,
I saw two pairs of Dragonflies . . .
They were each flying around one another
In an almost reckless dance.
Suddenly, one pair came together and tumbled briefly
downward before flying off together in passionate, Dragonfly
bliss . . .
But the colorless female from the other pair, just as
suddenly, broke off her dance. She flew away . . . Leaving
the bright blue male to land on a car antenna . . .
Alone.
I looked at him,
Almost motionless,
In the early morning breeze.
His body,
Slowly teetering
With his wings.
I could almost feel
His sadness . . .
Or maybe
It was mine.
But as I watched him
Fly off
In search
Of another dance . . .
I swear . . .
I knew
How he felt.
